The genesis of Vibha lies in the Child Relief & You movement started by Rippan Kapur and six friends in 1979. Vibha was officially incorporated in the USA in 1991 and ever since has organically grown and evolved into a global movement that has positively impacted millions of children’s lives. This evolution saw Vibha transform from a fundraising and grant making organization into a social catalyst
Our Story
that makes targeted investments in solutions and experiments to address systemic child development problems at scale. Even through its growth and evolution, Vibha still remains a completely volunteer driven and grassroots level movement. We strongly believe that one does not need to be in a position of immense power or wealth to trigger social change, one just needs to be the change that they wish to see in the world.
1979 - 1980
Child Relief & You movement started in India by Rippan Kapur and six friends.
1991 - 1992
Child Relief & You Inc incorporated in New Jersey, USA by Nomita Kundandas Abreu primarily focused on fundraising.
1993 - 1994
Early volunteers contact each other and come together as a group.
1995 - 1996
National Volunteer Network and city based Action Centers Established.
1996 - 2001
Movement spreads across multiple cities in the US with thousands of volunteers joining. First Volunteer Conference held.
2002 - 2003
Official transition from a fundraising organization to a grant making organization. Rebranded as ‘Help Them Grow’ (doing work as ‘Vibha’).
2003 - 2008
Formalized Vibha focus areas. Established Vibha India and developed the original framework for 'Scalable, Sustainable & Replicable' solutions.
2009 - 2014
Started ‘Pragati’ - biennial conference for the social ecosystem. Formalized ‘Seed, Grow, Scale’ methodology.
2014 - 2015
Established Advisory Board. Officially re-branded as ‘Vibha’.
2016 - 2018
Crossed the ‘two million children impacted’ milestone by supporting over 300 ideas. Awarded the GuideStar Gold Seal for Transparency, and the Top Rated Non-Profit award by Great Non Profits.
