In a resounding step towards nurturing young minds and fostering a culture of reading and exploration, a momentous event unfolded at RM Jain Girls Higher Secondary School on October 20, 2023. The District Education Officer, Thiruvallur, ignited the spirit of learning and imagination by inaugurating the Library Project, a testament to collaborative efforts between the district education department, Kemin, Vibha, and LeapForWord.
A Journey of Empowerment
The District Education Officer, Thiruvallur, in partnership with Kemin, Vibha, and LeapForWord, embarked on a transformative journey to implement Kemin’s English Literacy Program in Thiruvallur district. This pioneering initiative aimed to train, certify, and support teachers in Tamil medium schools to effectively teach the English Literacy Program to students in grades 2 to 5.
Progressive Phases of Learning
The initiative unfolded in sequential phases, commencing in the academic year ’21-’22, with Vibha facilitating LeapForWord’s foray into Tamil Nadu, supported by Kemin. In the inaugural year, the first level of the English Reading Program, known as “ELP,” was introduced, setting the foundation for subsequent stages.
In the following year, the Word Power Championship took center stage, engaging young minds in an innovative competition that amplified their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
A Vision Translated into Reality: The Library Project
The Library Project, a pivotal element of this comprehensive educational endeavor, was unveiled as a logical extension of the Elementary and Advanced Reading program. This initiative aimed to provide students with a platform to apply their newfound reading abilities in the enchanting world of books.
Inspired by the visionary theme “100 by 11,” the Library Project was meticulously designed with a singular objective: to empower students to read 100 books before completing their primary grade. This ambitious goal seeks to reinforce the importance of reading and encourage a lifelong love for learning and exploration.
A Gathering of Change-Makers
The unveiling of the Library Project witnessed the presence of distinguished individuals whose unwavering commitment to education and transformational initiatives has been instrumental in this journey. Mrs. Mohona, the District Education Officer of Thiruvallur, graced the occasion, joined by Mr. Nandakumar K, Regional Director (South Asia) of Kemin India, along with Mrs. Gayathry R, Manager (HR), and Miss Sindhuja, HR Representative.
Representing Vibha, Ms. Scotlin, Director of CSR, stood as a beacon of support, emphasizing the collective efforts dedicated to empowering young learners and providing them with a pathway to a brighter future.
A Pathway to Infinite Knowledge
The Library Project is not just a physical space; it symbolizes a gateway to unlimited knowledge and boundless imagination. It embodies the belief that every book read is a journey embarked upon, every page turned is a new discovery, and every story absorbed is a step towards enlightenment.
As this symbolic space comes to life, it serves as a sanctuary where young minds will explore, learn, and dream. It stands as a testament to collaborative endeavors aimed at shaping a generation of lifelong learners and thinkers, nurturing a world where knowledge knows no bounds.
