Access to quality education is a fundamental right that every child deserves. However, for underprivileged children, this right often remains elusive, leaving them at a disadvantage when it comes to exploring opportunities in science and technology. Recognizing the need for equitable education, VIBHA, in collaboration with Kemin Industries, Aide et Action, and Kitucate Education Foundation, has taken a significant step forward by establishing the first STEM Lab at the Girls Higher Secondary School in Gummudipoondi, Thiruvallur. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in laboratory facilities and provide underprivileged girls with access to hands-on science education. On the 19th of April 2023, this remarkable endeavor was inaugurated by Mr. George Joseph, Vice President of Kemin Industries, marking a new chapter in the educational journey of these young girls.

Implementation Method
VIBHA’s implementation plan for their STEM labs is comprehensive and structured. It starts with providing intensive training to all science teachers and the appointed STEM faculty. These trainings equip teachers with alternative teaching methodologies and empower them to effectively integrate STEM education into their regular curriculum.
The science curriculum kits, consisting of a wide range of apparatus and supplies, will be used by teachers during regular science periods for students from the 6th to the 10th grade. Additionally, Science Club classes will be held for students from the 6th to the 9th grade, allowing them to gain real-life science knowledge through hands-on experimentation in the STEM Lab. Technology Club classes will focus on imparting electronics and 3D printing knowledge to students from the 6th to the 12th grade.
Throughout the year, the Science and Technology Clubs will be conducted for one hour per week for each class, providing consistent exposure and engagement with STEM concepts. VIBHA’s project team has implemented robust monitoring and evaluation methods to ensure the effective utilization of the STEM labs and track the impact on over 700 students from the 6th to the 10th grade.
