Indian classical dance and arts are known to be full of colors, elegance, richness, and spirituality.
They have been a symbol not only of expressing rich culture, but also of elevating the audience and facilitating their experience of the divine.
On October 6th, members of the Vibha Chicago action center held the event Nritya Sandhya, which featured the performance of Chicago based Kathak dancer and founder director of Nrityaniketan, Madhura Sane. Organized by Srishti Sahu and Lohith Rao, volunteers at Vibha-Chicago, the event presented some beautiful classical compositions, revival of some melodious thumris with some semi-classical and light music in Divya Khandekar’s voice and feelings with Sane’s expressions.
Furthermore, Sahu started the night with a beautiful opening presentation of an Odissi performance, and also Suneel Mundle performed that night. These dances and performances sure did uplift the audience and sparked admiration in them, but event’s cause was even nobler.
Being the first-time Vibha-Chicago has ever hosted such a large fundraising show, the funds raised were a total of around $500, but the chapter received $1000 in sponsorships and the event spread awareness about Vibha in Chicago and its humanitarian cause. Vibha-Chicago’s biggest event yet, the chapter was able to make it a success through the dedication and hard work of 10 core volunteers and 6 day-volunteers, which included youth volunteers. Congratulations to those volunteers, especially the youth, whose support and commitment to Vibha has helped better the community around them and all over the world! As the Chicago chapter continues to grow, we can’t wait to hear about even more successes!
